Day 21: from the Grand Canyon, we begin our drive towards Los Angeles by driving 385-miles on an extremely hot day. With the temperature reaching 109F, we initially drive to Lake Havasu City - second only to the Grand Canyon as Arizona's biggest tourist attraction. The draw for tourists in a city created in the midst of the Mojave Desert is London Bridge - the original 1831 structure having been moved to here in 1971.

 

Our overnight accommodation is at the Best Western Gardens Motel, in Twentynine Palms - a town in the middle of nowhere. We buy sandwiches, salads, ice cream etc at the local supermarket for our evening meal - the cost offset by Anne winning $50 on a scratch card.

 

Day 22: we drive from Twentynine Palms to the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, via the Joshua Tree National Park, where we do three short walks through the cactus; to some unusually shaped rocks; and to the Barker Dam.

Keys View (elevation 5,185-feet) where there are sweeping views across the Little San Bernardino Mountains to the Colorado Desert - our last stop before reaching Anaheim and checking into the Bonita Tower section of the Disneyland Hotel. We then go to Goofie's Kitchen for what transpires to be a very entertaining evening meal
