Once off the ship, we arrange to travel to Gypsy Cove with Penguin Travel's shuttle bus. At the cove we find several moulting Magellan penguins who are happy to be viewed and photographed. Exploring Gypsy Cove prior to returning to Stanley enables us to appreciate the wildness and loneliness of the islands

The Oosterdam is close inshore

The SS Great Britain (Brunel's great ocean liner) was retired to the Falkland Islands in 1884. In 1970 she was returned to Bristol where she was built, but a spar remains in Stanley

Stanley has a number of memorials to the 1982 Falkland's War, including a bust of Margaret Thatcher and plaques listing the members of the British forces who lost their lives in the conflict
