Azores Island Hopping: May 2013
(continued)

Azores
For our final afternoon before tomorrow's flight home, we decide to walk from the hotel in the opposite direction to that we have previously taken into Ponta Delgano - this walk provides contrasting views of the attractive coastline that is faced by small, basic houses, some of which are in poor repair. We walk as far as a split rock that juts into the sea, on the route seeing a richly-coloured three-wheeled scooter.

Tonight's meal is a special set menu served to our tables. We are efficiently served an extremely enjoyable meal of appertisers; chicken vol-au-vents; fish parcels; beef with potato and a single carrot whose upright positioning causes some amusement; and pineapple surprise (left). There are generous servings of wine and the excellent meal ends with coffee.

Saturday, May 25th: flight S4540 departs at 10:11am and we land at Gatwick at 2:40pm.

Our island-hopping holiday in The Azores was a most enjoyable experience. The islands had been on our 'to visit' list for some years, without us making any positive efforts to get there. The last minute cancellation of a cruise to see the Northern Lights caused us to choose this SAGA trip as a replacement. We found The Azores to have an old-fashioned charm, and that the inhabitants were equally charming. Combined with some verdant and tranquil scenery, colourful flowers, unusual architecture, volcanic features, whale-watching, and a remote location, The Azores provided us with a delightful holiday.
